Best Ozarks Road Trip Itineraries for a 12-Passenger Sprinter

9 min read

The Ozarks reward groups that can stay together. A 12-passenger Sprinter turns a logistics puzzle — three cars, six drivers, no cell service — into one conversation on the way to the next trailhead. Here are three itineraries we help NWA families and friend groups run every summer.

3-Day Weekend: Bentonville → Buffalo National River

Day 1: Pickup in Rogers or delivery to your Bentonville hotel. Grab breakfast at Onyx Coffee Lab, then drive US-62 east toward Eureka Springs (1h). Lunch downtown, then push on to Ponca (1h 20m). Camp at Steel Creek. Day 2: Ponca to Kyle's Landing float — the van easily fits paddles, coolers, and 12 people. Sunset dinner back in Jasper at the Ozark Cafe. Day 3: Whitaker Point (Hawksbill Crag) sunrise hike, then straight back to Bentonville (3h 15m). Total drive: ~9 hours split across three days — Sprinter cruises it comfortably.

5-Day Ozarks Highlights Loop

Rogers → Beaver Lake (Hobbs State Park, day 1) → Eureka Springs (day 2, Basin Park Hotel or 1905 Basin) → Buffalo River / Ponca (days 3–4, floating + Whitaker Point) → Mountain Home & Bull Shoals (day 5) → back to Rogers via US-62. Roughly 550 miles. Fits a bachelor/bachelorette weekend, a multi-generational family trip, or a college friend reunion where nobody wants to caravan.

7-Day Sprinter Trip: NWA + Ouachitas + Little Rock

For groups flying into XNA who want the full Arkansas experience. Days 1–2 NWA (Crystal Bridges, Coler bike park, Beaver Lake). Days 3–4 Hot Springs (Superior Bathhouse, Ouachita National Forest hikes, Lake Ouachita). Days 5–6 Little Rock (Presidential Library, River Market). Day 7 back to XNA. About 800 miles total — one Sprinter, one gas card, everyone stays together.

What to bring for any Ozark trip

A Bluetooth aux cable (the van has USB-C and USB-A ports), a cooler that fits behind row 3, and cash for the Buffalo River shuttle services if you're floating. Cell service drops between Jasper and Ponca — download maps offline before you leave Harrison.
